Field workers make up a significant proportion of most utilities' workforces, and in many cases, these workers continue to perform their work in the same way as they have done for the past 25 or more years. Given the dramatic advances in ICT technology, it is time for utilities to re-examine how they support their field operations, and many utilities are starting to investigate and in some cases implement mobile computing and wireless workforce management (WFM) solutions.
