The FIG Working Week 2008 will be held in Stockholm, Sweden from14 to 19 June 2008, the week before Sweden’s most traditional celebration, the “Midsummer”. The theme of the Working Week “Integrating Generations” fits with the overall theme of the current council, “Building the Capacity”. The technical programme will include all ten commissions with a special focus on land and tenure issues.
This Working Week will be FIG’s main event for 2008 and at the same time the mid-term conference for the current council. At the general assembly new vice-presidents and chairs-elect will be elected for all commissions, which will add some special excitement to the meeting in addition to normal decision-making topics.
Together with UN-Habitat FIG will organise a seminar on slum upgrading and the importance of financial mechanisms. This is an issue placed very high at the global agenda in support of the Millennium Development Goals. This seminar will be a fully integrated part of the technical programme.
This conference is hosted jointly by the International Federation of Surveyors (FIG) and the Swedish Association of Chartered Surveyors, which will at the same time celebrate its 100th Anniversary. The hosting association was founded in 1908 and has about 1800 members representing all surveying disciplines. Swedish surveyors are experienced in cadastre and land management, geoinformatics, real estate management and valuation.
