CLM Positioning Solutions held a seminar on the latest positioning systems for construction surveying at Ekudeni Resort in Muldersdrift. Mark Smith from CLM kicked off the proceedings with an overview of site positioning and explained the difference between total station and GPS operation. Daniel Höntzsch from parent company, Trimble, showed the audience the TSC2 Controller which features a full keyboard for total station or GPS operation, and offers an intuitive, easy-to-use interface for a wide range of site positioning applications. He
explained how using the TSC2 with SCS900 Site Controller software gives supervisors, foremen, grade checkers, and site engineers total control of site operations. Höntzsch demonstrated the TSC2’s capabilities on a scale model of a construction site, taking delegates through the setup procedures for calculating stockpile volumes, setting up control points, taking measurements and checking tolerances. Then, working with additional scale models, he demonstrated road and building stake out functions using the TSC2 controller. Höntzsch finished up by showing how to transfer the collected data, using Trimble’s SCS900 Site Controller Software, onto the user’s system and how the file synchronisation process works. CLM held similar seminars in Bloemfontein, Durban, East London, Port Elizabeth, George and Cape Town.
