AfriGIS hosted their 28th Data Release show on 4 June 2010. The successful event provided customers with new and interesting information with regard to their May data release. The show was held at Bytes Conference Centre in Midrand. Highlights of the data release included more than 100 000 new addresses added to the National Address Database (NAD). Over 1100 new proclaimed towns added to the SG towns dataset and an additional 3000 new links added on the Street Centrelines. The value of the quarterly maintenance performed on the AfriGIS datasets was once again highlighted. Continuous maintenance is required to ensure that inherent defects in the data are corrected, that new developments are captured and that name changes are recorded. Another addition, the AfriGIS dataset for Gated Communities, featured at the March launch, once again received a “thumbs-up”. This layer enables easier access to gated communities for municipal service delivery and emergency services, telecommunications providers, home improvement specialists, removal companies and security firms, among others. The data release presentation was held for the second time this year in Cape Town and was well received amongst their Cape Town client base.
