The SAGI vice president (finance and administration), Koos Landman, recently visited Accra, Ghana, to participate in the Canadian funded “Toolkit for Change” programme, a project which, as one of its aims, introduces outcomes/competency-based education and training in the country. Koos met with a number of prominent personalities in the field of geomatics in Ghana. One of them included Stephen Djaba, a member of the executive of the Ghana Institution of Surveyors (GhIS), who is also the conference coordinator of the 5th International Federation of Surveyors (FIG) Regional Conference for Africa which will be held in Accra on March 8-11, 2006.
The theme of the conference is “Promoting land administration and good governance”. The conference is organized by FIG and GhIS and co-hosted by the Ministry of Land, Forestry and Mines (MLFM) of Ghana. It is the first FIG regional conference to be held in West Africa and follows two previous conferences held in Africa in Nairobi, Kenya in 2001 and in Marrakech, Morocco in 2003. The organisers are looking forward to a large number of delegates from South Africa attending. For more information on the conference, visit www.fig.net/accra/
